preclinical pharmacology

Pharmacology is the key to drug development

Successful drug development maintains a translational line-of-sight from early in vitro/in vivo studies to clinical studies, ensuring that new drugs effectively treat human disease.

Truly Labs´ expertise build on extensive drug development experience spanning from Big Pharma to small start-ups and across multiple research areas and drug modalities – from traditional small molecules to RNAs, proteins and cells.

Our preclinical capabilities focus on building a robust understanding of the pharmacological profile of potential therapeutics. Potency, selectivity and mode-of-action can be investigated in vitro before moving into in vivo studies. This significantly reduces the need for in vivo experiments, and make sure the in vivo experiments deliver the most value to your project. The focus on 3R principles is key to how we work and aligns with our ethical approach.

In vitro assays offered by Truly range from reporter gene assays to flow cytometry and traditional cytotoxicity tests. Our live cell imaging platforms allow us to study cellular life and death by combining imaging and functional analysis. In vivo work at Truly focuses on understanding pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic relationships, which we consider the most important data to set doses for safety and clinical studies. Using multiple administration routes, including inhalation, we also offer a range of complex disease models, with a focus on pharmacodynamic effects which mimic many aspects of human disease.

Examples of areas we can offer

Efficacy/Potency

Assessing a drug’s efficacy—the maximum biological response achievable—and its potency—the specific dose required to elicit a desired effect—is fundamental in the drug development process, guiding dosage and therapeutic strategy.

Respiratory & Inhalation

Inhaled drug delivery offers rapid onset and bypasses first-pass metabolism. We provide extensive expertise in inhalation therapeutics and offer various models, including nebulized and dry powder inhalation.

Imaging

Live in vitro and in vivo imaging studies can be invaluable for visualization of biological processes such as cell function, drug internalization, tumor progression/metastasis and compound biodistribution.

Oncology

Oncology animal models can accelerate preclinical development by providing a reliable, translational platform for safety assessment, efficacy testing, mechanistic understanding, and optimization of novel treatment approaches.

PK/PD

Pharmacokinetic (PK) and pharmacodynamic (PD) studies are crucial activities in early drug development. In-depth understanding of the PK/PD potential of drug candidates can be a critical success factor in a drug discovery program.

Inflammation & Infection

Inflammation and infections are critical in preclinical testing, vital for understanding disease mechanisms and evaluating potential treatments. Our models provide a robust platform for recapitulating complex biological processes.
